The Tavern is where Food is stored and the home of the Thief. The tavern also serves as a gathering place for your creatures; all creatures must come here to eat, and many species enjoy spending additional time in the Tavern. Placing the Tavern near dungeon entrances will increase the likelihood that your creatures will quickly become aware of invaders if your dungeon is attacked. Also, when upgraded with Furniture from the Workshop, the Tavern can also make your creatures happier and help them regain hitpoints faster.

A Tavern Level 3 allows the construction of Guard Post rooms.

Per Tile Bonus: +20 Maximum Storage Available, +5% Storage Bonus, +10 Amount Safe from Looting
Per Tile Bonus(Level 2+): +1% Thief Maximum Happiness
Per Tile Bonus(Level 4+): +1% Thief Accuracy, +1% Thief Defense
Benefits of increasing level replace the previous level and stack with the bonus from tiles.

Creature Happiness and Healing Edit

The Tavern is where your creatures gather to rest and eat, making it central to their health and welfare. By adding Dining Tables and Fire Pits, your creatures' Happiness and Healing Rate can be dramatically increased (increasing their efficiency, and allowing raiding parties to raid more often and recover hitpoints more quickly between multiple raids). Dungeons with diverse populations will benefit most from fully equipped taverns; although every creature's lair (rooms like the Den or Temple) supports Furniture that will provide superior bonuses to Happiness and Healing, Tavern improvements can save you the cost and trouble of manufacturing Happiness and Healing Rate Furniture for each creature lair.
